ISO 9000 Need and Readiness Checklist
A Quick Assessment for the Model for Quality Assurance

Purpose: To provide a Need and Readiness Checklist to evaluate if now is the time to implement ISO 9000 Quality Assurance systems.

Instructions: Answer each question "Yes" or "No."

Need questions: If one or more "Yes" answers, begin implementing ISO 9000 now.

1. Are customers asking about your status on ISO 9000?    
2. Are customers talking about partnering with ISO 9000    registered companies?    
3. Are major competitors already registered to ISO 9000?    
4. Are competitors telling customers you are not registered?    
5. Are your documented quality assurance processes inadequate?    
6. Are your corrective/preventive action systems ineffective?    
7. Are there signs your quality assurance system is not adequate with waste, rework or repair costs too high?    
 

Readiness questions: If one or more "No" answers, begin developing the missing quality assurance systems now.

1. Has your executive management defined and documented its quality policy...such as in a quality policy manual?    
2. Does executive management review the quality system at defined intervals... such as, reviewing the quality system quarterly?    
3. Do you have an effective corrective and preventive action system to document and track needed improvements?    
4. Do you have an effective internal audit system for quality   assurance, providing continual assessment of the quality system?    
5. Are your document and data control systems effective ?    
6. Are production processes carried out under controlled conditions ...that is, with adequate documentation, equipment and controls?    
7. Is inspection, measuring and test equipment controlled,     calibrated and maintained?    
8. Is nonconforming material controlled to prevent unintended use?
